- STAND
For the Protection of Children and
Youth
The Archdiocese of Baltimore is committed to providing a safe
environment for children entrusted to the church and school's care.
The Baltimore Archdiocese
STAND web site will help you understand
and assist personnel in facilitating the safest environment for
our children and youth.
All chaperones and volunteers for school
activities must be STAND trained and approved. This
is an Archdiocese of Baltimore policy. For details on STAND and
STAND training, contact the school office and visit the Baltimore
Archdiocese STAND web site.
- Child Safe Program
The Shrine of the Sacred Heart School participates in Catholic
Charities’ Child
Safe Program. Every year the Child Safe coordinator presents personal safety
rules and concepts to children in Kindergarten, First, Third and Fifth Grades. The
Eighth Grade receives a longer presentation regarding date/acquaintance rape
and sexual harassment. The follow-up program ensures that
the children receive age-appropriate personal safety skills at
important intervals in their development.
The presentation dates and description of each grade’s
presentation will be announced five working days in advance,
thereby giving parents time to assess the information they need
to determine if the Child Safe program is appropriate for their
child. Parents must inform the school if they decide not
to allow their child to participate.
- Family Life and NCEA AIDS Awareness Program
In compliance with Archdiocesan policy, Shrine of the Sacred
Heart School not only integrates Gospel values within its academic
curriculum, but it also integrates across the curriculum an
appreciation and understanding of Christian sexuality, and
AIDS according to the maturity level of the students. Parents
are welcome to make an appointment to review the textbooks
used to cover these topics.
